Vietnamese folk art on show in Quang Ninh


An exhibition of Vietnamese folk art opened on December 3 in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province, introducing the nation’s unique types of traditional art. 

This exhibition is being held by the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Quang Ninh Museum.

Phu Yen expects half a million tourists in tourism year


The central coastal province of Phu Yen expects to welcome half a million tourists during the National Tourism Year 2011, up about 180,000 compared to this year, said Tran Quang Nhat, Deputy Director of the province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Nhat said that the hospitality industry in Phu Yen was still lagging behind other neighboring localities, but arrivals are increasing by 30% annually. If the target is realized, that will set a record growth rate of 55% or so. 

Countdown begins for annual Taste of the World Culinary Festival


A national record for the largest banh xeo (savoury rice pancake) will be set at the Taste of the World Culinary Festival to be held in HCMC, organisers of the festival told a press conference on December 7.

It will be larger than 1.2m across, La Quoc Khanh, Deputy Director of the city Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said without specifying its size. 

Activities for the National Tourism Year 2011


With the name “Visit Viet Nam Year - Phu Yen 2011” and the theme “Exotic Beaches and Islands”, the National Tourism Year 2011 with various activities will take place in Phu Yen, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan provinces and Da Nang City, in cooperation with provinces in the Central Highlands and major cities in Viet Nam at different times in 2011. 

Hanoi to host homeland spring programme


The Xuan Que Huong (Homeland Spring) programme is scheduled to take place in Thang Long Royal Citadel, Hanoi on January 28, 2011 to welcome the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival, said the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (SCOV) on December 14. 

As part of a series to celebrate the successful hosting of the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi and the 11th National Party Congress, the programme is to be jointly organised by SCOV under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other related agencies. 

Festival to promote tea growers and brands


The third Lam Dong Tea Culture Festival 2010 will be held in Bao Loc City in the Central Highlands Province of Lam Dong from December 25-27 to promote the trademark and potential of the country’s tea industry.

According to Bui Thang, Bao Loc People’s Committee’s Chairman and head of the festival’s organising board, the highlight of this year’s festival will be a night to celebrate Bao Loc city’s B'lao tea brand which has been around for decades, and honour outstanding tea growers. 

Binh Thuan to host international yacht festival


An international yacht festival will take place in the central province of Binh Thuan, from January 15-18, 2011, Ngo Minh Chinh, Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said on December 20.

With the theme “Ship, Sea and Sun”, the festival will feature an exhibition and performance of 200 yachts, four music gala nights, a light show along with a welcoming gala, a series of gala dinners and a closing ceremony.
